Walter Lilly was engaged to construct and fit out a magnificent 725 m2 eight-storey private family residence in Knightsbridge, dating back to the 1890s.
The project included the demolition of the existing property behind a retained façade and the construction of a new double basement within a reinforced waterproof concrete structure.
It incorporates structural timber and steel upper floors, new brick rear elevation, a beautiful brickwork façade, a new roof structure and highly-specified internal finishes.
A key feature of the residence is the art deco inspired stair core. Crafted from curved stone, the circular staircase wraps around a cylindrical glass eight-storey lift shaft that features a revolving glass turret at roof level. The impressive lift is moved by a 24m long hydraulic ram which disappears into a borehole at basement two level.
The highest quality materials and specialist joinery were used to decorate the stunning property, which also includes a wine cellar, gym, sauna, roof garden and a cocktail bar.
