Walter Lilly Is Proud To Support Evolve Housing + Support This Christmas
We are very pleased to announce our support for Evolve Housing + Support this Christmas. Evolve are a charity that provides accommodation and wider assistance to people impacted by homelessness in London.
Homelessness in the capital is at record levels – one in fifty people are homeless or in temporary accommodation, and rough sleeping is at its highest level for over a decade. There are lots of causes for this including rising rents, the cost-of-living crisis, and a shortage of affordable homes.
Here at Walter Lilly, we believe that everybody has a role to play in tackling this issue. Becoming homeless is something that can happen to anyone. It can also have serious long-term consequences for mental and physical health, and without the right interventions, people affected can find themselves in cycles from which it is very difficult to escape.
Many people who experience homelessness have already experienced traumatic events beforehand. Furthermore, the experience of being homeless can itself lead to trauma (people who are rough sleeping face a higher risk of becoming victims of crime, for example). The relationship between the two issues is complicated and navigating that is crucial to helping people move on. We understand that everybody is different, and how we support them out of homelessness must be tailored to reflect that. It is only through personalised support, delivered with empathy and compassion, that we can enable people to move on from homelessness for good.
That is why this December we are supporting Evolve Housing + Support’s Big Give campaign. Everything they raise will go towards their Health + Wellbeing programme, which uses trained therapists to provide a wide range of trauma-informed support. That support can take the form of counselling, group workshops, music therapy, physical health advice and much more.
We know that investing in local communities brings benefits for all, and we are very pleased to support work that is delivering a real impact for people in London.
