Walter Lilly celebrate construction completion of our flagship project

Walter Lilly has achieved practical completion on the new home for the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS), delivered on behalf of the Medical Research Council (MRC) and Imperial College London.

Commencing on site in 2019 with an extensive enabling works programme, this project involved the Design and Build of a 12,000m2 state-of-the-art, nine-storey biomedical research facility located on the Hammersmith Hospital campus.

The building was designed and built to an exacting specification to provide a facility able to support current research projects as well as being adaptable to accommodate future needs. The advanced research complex features Containment Level two (CL2) laboratories, imaging areas and core biotechnology services.

Dr Susan Simon, Director of Capital & Estates of MRC, said “We are thrilled to see the construction now complete. This fantastic new building creates a centralised home for LMS researchers who were previously spread across several sites.

The delivery of this project has been exceptional, and the team collaboration throughout the entire construction process has been second-to-none. We thank everyone involved throughout the design and construction journey; from the design team, specialist consultants, Walter Lilly and all of the subcontractors.”

Walter Lilly’s Board Director, Andrew Postlethwaite, said “We are extremely proud to be a part of the team who has delivered this flagship project for the Medical Research Council, Imperial College London and the London Institute of Medical Sciences.

The success of this project is a testament to everyone involved and we are honoured to deliver this new research facility, strengthening the science research capabilities within the UK.”
