Today, we are celebrating International Volunteer Day and the importance it brings not only to our local communities, but the wellbeing of our team.
According to the book Happiness by Design by Paul Dolan, volunteering can provide individuals with a sense of purpose, which contributes to overall happiness. Mind, a leading mental health charity, has identified 5 Ways to Wellbeing with Step 5 ‘Give’ – encouraging individuals to give and explore volunteering initiatives.
Recently, our Senior Leadership Team spent time at The Whiteley Homes Trust, a housing charity supporting the health and wellbeing of older people. The team rallied together to repaint buildings and clear out storage rooms. Lilian Meagher, the Volunteer Coordinator, expressed her gratitude, “I hope everyone at Walter Lilly enjoyed seeing the village and meeting some of our residents, it was an absolute pleasure to have them on site. Please do pass on a huge thank you from Fergus and of course myself to the whole team. Thank you all so much”.
This month, we are participating in a Winter Warm Drive giving back to those in need by collecting food items at Head Office. All donations will be distributed to food banks by Croydon Voluntary Action.
As part of our employee benefits, we are proud to offer every member of the team two paid days towards volunteering. Thank you to all of our team members who selflessly give their time to make a positive impact.
