Newport Street Gallery

Vauxhall, London

Newport Street Gallery now stands on what was once a terrace of industrial buildings in Vauxhall. The footprint comprises the whole length of the street, with three existing listed buildings flanked by new builds at either end.

We repurposed the existing buildings into a new and exciting public space, featuring six large galleries across two floors, a restaurant and offices.

In keeping with the Victorian style of the street, the gallery was sympathetically constructed using colour matched red brick to suit the finish of the listed buildings, with groups of low level windows and high blank walls. New services and contemporary gallery finishes were completed throughout.

The curved staircases in the gallery – built using traditional lime mortar and timber from Dresden, Germany – are architectural masterpieces perfectly suited to a building showcasing art.
