Foodstore Facility

Kingston Hill Campus, Surrey

The refurbishment and alterations to the Foodstore Facility at the Kingston Hill Campus is Walter Lilly’s fourth project carried out for Kingston University. This project was procured on a JCT 2011 Intermediate Contract with Contractor’s Design.

The Foodstore is the main undergraduate dining space within the University, where students can buy their lunch, sit and relax. Walter Lilly managed the refurbishment and alteration of the existing space within the ground floor, implementing the architect’s designs to improve the sense of space for diners, the circulation and seating capacity and the retail configuration.

The works included new servery equipment, as well as the formation of a new Ecophon baffle ceiling which, as well as being a striking feature, also helps to absorb ambient sound.

The rest of the building remained in operation throughout the works and Walter Lilly ensured continued safe access to and within the building with minimal disruption to neighbouring buildings. This was especially important as work took place during student exams.
