Jodrell Kew Gardens

Kew, London

The Jodrell Laboratory, which contains the National Mycology Archive, is based at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew. Walter Lilly was engaged to improve and extend the laboratory and to relocate and consolidate several research libraries.

The extension of the laboratory created a new three-sided courtyard space – linked to the School of Horticulture building and the Aquatic Gardens – and the consolidation created greater space for researchers and improved storage for important botanical collections.

The new building provides an additional 2,200 m2 of space arranged as two storeys over a single basement and houses laboratories, office space and herbarium storage with a spacious and airy atrium, which provides a breakout area for staff.
