East Chemistry – Phase 3

Windlesham, Surrey

Following the successful completion of the Phase One and Two projects, Walter Lilly was re-appointed to carry out Phase Three of the refurbishment of further chemistry laboratories.

Phase Three required the refurbishment and extension of a portion of an existing operational laboratory building, including reconfiguration of internal space, provision of new external glazed screens to extend the usable footprint, provision of new services installation and laboratory furniture.

One laboratory was formed with 14 bespoke bench type fume cupboards, an area created for glove box equipment, store rooms for equipment, two meeting rooms and focus booths. Refurbishment of the two elevations to create write up areas for the scientists were also required.

The existing floor was a challenge during this phase due to Asbestos and the quality of the existing screed. Areas of the floor were removed and new screed was installed following the installation of the new walls. The new laboratory furniture and service booms were all bespoke to this phase.

A new link walkway canopy from East Chemistry to West Chemistry was also constructed.
