East Biology – Phase 1

Windlesham, Surrey

Eli Lilly’s laboratories were originally constructed in 1967. Walter Lilly completed the first phase of a plan to refurbish and configure over 3,250 m2 of space used for chemistry and biology laboratory functions.

Across all four phases completed by Walter Lilly, works were carried out within an occupied site, adjacent to live existing labs where research works were being conducted. Considerable planning was required and major mechanical and electrical diversions were phased to ensure minimal disruption to all users’ day to day operations.

Phase One saw the strip out, extension and subsequent fit-out of biology laboratories with 14 fume cupboards.

Significant ancillary works included the re-routing and expansion of existing M&E services to serve the new and existing areas whilst providing capacity for further phased expansion of the facility. A new curtain wall, a flexible space that can be adapted to accommodate chemistry or biology operations and associated offices, meeting, welfare and collaboration spaces for up to 14 scientists was also created.
