New Stores Building

Weybridge, Surrey

Walter Lilly constructed a New Stores Building for DEFRA on the APHA site at Weybridge, Surrey. The building acts as the main distribution point to and from the site and includes office accommodation for the administration personnel.

Internal storage includes freezers, chemical and secure areas along with racking and a high bay pallet area. Externally, a new concrete road area and gas store were constructed and landscaping undertaken.

DEFRA stipulated that the finished building should be carbon neutral and a number of features were specified to achieve this aim. It therefore includes a sheet metal roof with an integral waterfall on the front of the building to channel rainwater into the harvesting system, a biomass boiler and wind turbines.

The project achieved an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating, scoring 83.76% and was the winner of the National BREEAM Industrial Award 2010.
