Private Family Office, Marylebone

Marylebone, London

Formerly the Incorporated Society of Musicians building in Central London, this Grade II Listed Georgian building was extensively refurbished by Walter Lilly to transform it into the London base of a private family office for an international company.

The property now comprises 750 m2 of high quality executive offices, meeting rooms and formal rooms for entertaining, with a kitchen, ancillary facilities and a private roof terrace.  An extensive AV system and comfort cooling was also installed throughout, and a new lift now spans all five floors of the family office.

Work included the restoration of the building fabric in a manner sympathetic to its heritage, removing previous alterations and additions to restore key features back to the appropriate historical context. The staircases were reinstated to their original style which included a curved cantilevered stone staircase in the basement and the reinstatement of a stone cantilevered stair from second to third floors. We also replaced gypsum plaster and plaster repairs with lath and lime plaster to the satisfaction of the WCC Heritage Officer.

Another feature of the project was the design and installation of a new rooflight above the main stairs and a hydraulic ram powered raising rooflight for the secondary stairs to provide access to the private roof terrace.
