Originally designed by the architect John Nash and built around 1827, this has long been an impressive and striking London residence on Regent’s Park’s Outer Circle. The Grade II* listed property provides 26,000sqft of accommodation and includes an underground swimming pool that can be converted into a ballroom. It boasts decadent entertaining spaces, a gymnasium, a gallery and staff accommodation.
Walter Lilly managed extensive alterations and refurbishment, which included opulent bedrooms, fitting out 10 luxurious bathrooms, a new kitchen and utility rooms, as well as the installation of a lift, food hoists and extensive electrical, mechanical and hi-tech audio-visual systems.
The 1,500sqft private leisure area include the main swimming pool yoga room, training room, massage room, hammam, sauna and two chaging rooms. The swimming pool was constructed using a floating floor which can alter the depth of the pool, as well converting the pool into a ballroom.
In a property of this magnitude and value, attention to detail was paramount, especially as the design incorporated many bespoke features including ironmongery, joinery and marble. All finishes were of the finest quality and specified to an exacting standard.
The plasterwork was carried out to such a high quality that it won several prestigious industry awards. Walter Lilly ensured original features were restored from designs hand-drawn in situ and formed using intricate custom moulds, with dot and screed work employed to striking effect on the walls. The neo-classical Lutyens ceilings and covings – in the drawing room, lobby, bedrooms and stairs – were also painstakingly reinstated to their original palatial glory.
The finished project included external elements such as a new portico and two new entrance kiosks, as well as extensive landscaping and the creation of terraced areas.
