Walter Lilly converted this unbroken crescent-shaped terrace of eight Grade II* listed buildings into 15 stunning apartments, across a total gross floor area of approximately 75,350sqft.
Originally constructed in the early 19th century, each property inter-connects on various levels and comprises basement, ground and five upper levels, with a stucco front, slate mansard roof and projecting Doric porches.
The project included restoration works to the existing cornices, mouldings, dado rails and other internal joinery, including window panelling. The existing floorboards were removed, restored and re-instated as part of the conservation strategy. The Portland stone façade was intricately cleaned and restored, and traditional skills on the project included lime render and plastering.
Walter Lilly carried out works to the existing roofs to create dramatic double height living rooms, and magnificent roof terraces with sliding glass canopies for some of the apartments.
The three existing lift shafts were modified and fitted with new lifts and a beautiful new stone cantilever staircase was also installed.
Sound proof cinema rooms were created in many of the apartments and a luxurious new swimming pool and spa bath installed in the sole triplex apartment. A new build element was also added to the terrace and provides additional accommodation.
Finally, the crescent of apartments now includes an underground car stacking system for 21 cars, built into the 11m deep basement.
Senior industry figures who visited the finished projects as guests of Grosvenor noted that they have never seen a project delivered to such a consistently high standard throughout.
