This project was for the construction of the building shell and fit out for an individually designed high quality private residence behind a retained façade. The property comprises two basement levels and four above ground storeys within the Brompton Ward, London.
The works comprised the demolition and façade retention of the existing property and the construction of a new double basement with a reinforced waterproof concrete structure. This incorporated new foul and surface water drainage, reinforced concrete spine wall, lift and stair core and structural timber and steel upper floors, new brick rear elevation, brickwork façade, new roof structure and quality finishes.
The real feature of the building is the new staircore and lift. This comprised a circular feature staircase, a glass lift shaft with a revolving glass turret at roof level and a glass lift which can also revolve for cleaning. The lift is moved by a hydraulic ram which is 24 m long and fits into a bore in the ground at basement two level.
