Kenwood House in Hampstead is set in tranquil parkland with panoramic views over London and boasts sumptuous interiors and important paintings by many great artists, including Rembrandt, Turner, Reynolds, Gainsborough and Vameer.

Refurbishment and representation of the Deal Staircase at Kenwood House.

The works included specialist decoration, graining of existing doors and bronzing of the balustrading. A primer and two coats of lead based oil paint bronzing effect were used, the paint prepared according to research by Crick Smith Conservation, and finished with one coat of varnish.

David Andrews Construction carried out the lime hair plaster to chestnut lathes & repairs to fibrous mouldings to the staircase.

The carpet was also replaced with a replica Kidderminster style.

The high quality project naturally called for close liaison with the Client and Kenwood House to bring the operations together.

The specialist expertise and knowledge of our supply chain was of paramount importance in ensuring accurate and appropriate historically based products and processes were used. This was achieved with the assistance of Crick Smith Conservation in association with English Heritage and Classidur.
