The works comprise the demolition of the existing buildings on the site and the construction of a new building in reinforced concrete with flat slab construction. External cladding will be a mixture of full height glazing to the ground floor areas with brass cladding above that level to the New Road and Walden Street elevations. The other two elevations will be clad primarily in a unitised glazing system above ground floor. The building will be built with environmental sustainability firmly in mind. Inside the building the lower ground floor and part of the ground floor will be utilised by the Queen Mary University. The remainder of the space on the ground floor will be formed of a café and entrance and meeting rooms for the Innovation Centre. The upper floors will be given over entirely to the Innovation Centre, which will also house separate facilities for students and staff at Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, including a new lecture theatre.
