City of Westminster
The works to this Grade II listed residence in Belgravia involved major structural alterations, underpinning and high quality refurbishment. The property consists of self contained units within the main house, for corporate use and a single dwelling Mews House. Additional facilities include a library, exercise room, raised garden terrace and atrium courtyard. The Mews House to the rear was demolished, and a new building constructed in keeping with adjoining properties. A new mansard roof was added to increase the living accommodation. A double depth basement was formed beneath the Mews in order to maximise living accommodation and incorporated the extensive heating and cooling plant requirements, which included chilled ceilings. High quality finishes were used throughout the property, including marble in the bathrooms, Combebrune limestone in the entrance halls and main house dining rooms, fitted by Stone Productions. Oak and bamboo flooring was used throughout. Bespoke joinery including cherry in the Library and wardrobe units in the bedrooms are lined in cedar, and were supplied by Taylor Made Joinery. Alternative Plans provided kitchens in each unit, including one that is curved fronted. Amongst the other finishes were polished plaster walls, fibrous plaster cornice and embellishments by Designed Plastercraft. Geothermal and underfloor heating were used throughout, with video entry units for each apartment and microwave sensors to the bathroom mirrors to prevent them steaming up. A lift was incorporated in the building.
