This scheme involved the extension and high quality refurbishment of a Grade I listed residence and linked Grade II listed mews house.

Works included the demolition and re-building of the mews house whilst retaining the front façade, and the creation of an orangery and garden terrace between the main and mews houses.

The roof was re-modelled to accommodate a playroom at fourth floor level and a roof terrace.

The basement was extended and deepened to accommodate a swimming pool complex.

       

Structural Engineering Works included:

  • Underpinning party walls to enable contiguous piling work in
    close proximity
  • Temporary flying shores and braced frame support to
    adjacent party walls
  • Temporary needling and lateral support framing to the
    retained façade, enabling removal of its supporting structure
    below
  • Extensive propping to the perimeter contiguous piling forming
    the basement swimming pool

Close co-operation with our in-house Temporary Works Department permitted a full understanding of the Consulting Engineer’s design intent.

Detailed sequencing of the early demolition, piling and temporary works installations enabled optimum construction periods to the basement works. 

         

High quality finishes were installed including:

  • Restored existing ornate cornices, ceiling roses and column capitals.
  • Marble and stonework, including decorative features to the pool hall and columns / pilasters to the entrance hall.
  • Elaborate mosaic tiling to the pool.
  • Armourcoat plastering.
  • Mahogany panelling and carved features including pediments, columns and pilasters.
  • Scagliola circular columns and pilasters.
  • Antique and new oak parquet flooring.
  • New vaulted and domed ceilings.
