7th July Memorial Completion
Walter Lilly was the Main Contractor for the construction of the Hyde Park Memorial to the victims of the 7th July London bombings. It was unveiled during the Summer by the HRH The Price of Wales and The Dutchess of Cornwall.
The ceremony was attended by the bereaved families, dignitaries and the Design Team.
The Site Team of Mark Crompton, Rob Day, Derek Brattle and Kevin Bailey represented Walter Lilly, with Chairman Brian May and Pre-Construction Director Andrew Postlethwaite also in attendance.
Norton Cast Products created the 52 stalae measuring 3 metres tall and 15-18 cm wide that define the cast stainless steel memorial. Each one is slightly different.
They are grouped to reflect the four locations of the bombs; Tavistock Square, Edgware Road, King's Cross and Aldgate where suicide bombers killed 52 members of the public.
The Memorial was designed by Architects Carmody Groake in close collaboration with members of the bereaved families. The project was managed by the Royal Parks on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
